Case Study: The Pinnacle Project - Live from the Dolomites

"Hi, how do you live stream from a mountain top?" Such a good question! Big thinking calls for innovative engineering. That's why producers Cherryduck chose WilkieTV to deliver one of the most iconic live streams ever for The North Face. The Pinnacle Project: Italy featured an exclusive pop-up shop of coveted collector's items donated by some of the most iconic explorers of our time.

Defying convention and in true North Face explorer style, the pop-up shop was situated 2055m up in the heart of The Dolomites mountain range. To have a chance of winning these items, fans needed to either face the mountain or join the live auction. We rose to the challenge of live streaming the pop-up to Facebook and Westfield billboards across the globe, all set against a spectacular mountainous background.

The Requirements: Design, deliver and run a lightweight and robust six camera live stream from the top of a mountain. Transmit live via satellite to Facebook, The North Face website and send live feeds to giant screens in New York, Tokyo, London and Milan.

The main hurdle was the mountain itself, a completely off-grid and entirely remote location. Everything had to work at high altitude, in unpredictable weather conditions, over a long time period, and fit into a single helicopter flight. We were delighted to be able to offer a bespoke fixed-rig package; including lightweight cameras, a mini broadcast kit, full power, and satellite streaming. Three of our brilliant crew worked hard to ensure a seamless live stream.

We're pleased to have enabled The Pinnacle Project to broadcast live across the globe, and to have delivered the ultimate livestream. Sending live video through space and ensuring fans across the world could engage in real time on Facebook. This project remains The North Face's most iconic pop-up ever.
