Haringey Box Cup 2015

WilkieTV deliver four live channels of boxing from the Haringey Box Cup 2015 at Alexandra Palace, in partnership with London Live!

WilkieTV simultaneously live streamed 4 boxing rings on behalf of London Live, by supplying four of our custom self-designed and built mini OB kits, crew and engineering support across five days. Our handling of the streamlined ringside production enabled London Live to focus their resources on producing a slick 8 hour live broadcast on the Sunday.

WilkieTV produced previously untapped content direct from each ring across the three days of quarters, semis and finals. Our cost-effective solution allowed London Live and the event organisers to directly reach more fans with more content in an innovative and exciting way.

Each of the four boxing rings was treated as an individual mini production, with a self-contained OB setup. This consisted of one of our multi-skilled vision mixers who were responsible for directing, mixing, keeping time, and controlling both on-screen graphics and three MRMC robotic heads fitted with Nikon D4 DSLR cameras.

Video on each ring was routed through one of our new 4K 8-Camera HD vision kits, which include full dynamic on-screen graphics support, VT playout and multi-track recording all packed into a single 6U rack case. Ambient sound and commentary was also captured on each ring and processed using our digital X32 core audio mixers.

Production was designed to be handled by a single operator to reduce costs whilst still keeping a high quality production. The two on-site WilkieTV engineers provided support as required and were also responsible for all setup and de-rig of the event, including integration with London Live’s broadcast supplier and OB truck, provided by VME/Euroscreens Ltd.

Finally, as well as recording each bout across the three days in ProRes 422, each ring was streaming directly to YouTube using hardware-based H.264 encoders.

With each bout being clipped straight to YouTube as soon as it finished, in total we completed over 87 hours of live broadcast and almost 3,000 minutes of action across 290 bouts. This directly available content was shared across social media by fans and contestants, driving tens of thousands of views to the London Live YouTube Channel within hours of each day’s events finishing.

WilkieTV provides smart and streamlined broadcast solutions to organisations wanting to innovate, access new audiences, or build on existing productions.
